FAQs
What Is A Cyanotype?
Cyanotype is an old blueprint technique dating back to 1842. It involves placing objects or digital negatives on chemically treated paper and then exposing the composition to UV light. Modern cyanotypes are often described as “alternative photography” or “camera-less photography.”
How Are Your Cyanotypes Created?
My Cyanotypes are primarily created by sourcing plant materials from my yard or garden. I also utilize bird feathers. Almost all of my cyanotypes are created using the “wet” method, which employs the use of water, vinegar, salt, spices, soap bubbles, inks, etc. to create unique tones and textures.
How Do I Care For A Cyanotype Print?
My cyanotype prints are shipped matted - not framed - and in a protective sleeve. I have purposely sized my prints so they are ready for standard framing, typically 11”x14” or 8”x10”. Please refer to the product description for size dimensions. Expensive custom framing is not required. For longevity, it is recommended that cyanotype prints be framed and displayed out of direct sunlight to ensure there is no fading. In the unlikely event you notice any fading, placing the print in a dark place for several days should return the print to its original blue tones.
If An Item Is Sold Out, Can I purchase a Digital Replica?
